Master Key systems are based on several access levels and are tailored to fit the security needs of a particular business.

With one key, business owners can open every lock in their office, including deadbolts, mortise locks, doors, padlocks and even electronic access control systems, while employees' keys will only open particular locks — for example, their office doors.

The top level key (perhaps the business owner's key) is often referred to as the Grand Master Key and is able to open all the doors of a business security system. The Master Key can open groups of doors designated by the business owner, and the bottom level usually opens only one door.
